Your "Things to do Guide" around Coromandel Town and Peninsula
Coromandel Town is full of character – a place where history, creativity, and adventure meet. Whether you’re here for a day or a longer stay, there’s plenty to see and do.

Coromandel Gold Stamper Battery: Hear the thunder of a working gold stamper and see how gold was extracted. Try your hand at gold panning and take home a little sparkle – a truly unforgettable experience.
Coromandel Museum: A charming museum packed with treasures from Māori and settler history, mining relics, and local stories.
Driving Creek Railway & Zipline: Ride a scenic narrow-gauge train through native forest to the Eyefull Tower lookout, or soar above the treetops on the eco-zipline.
Hike & Bike Coromandel: Explore at your own pace with e-bike hire or guided walks and rides. Discover hidden corners and scenic tracks across the peninsula.
The Waterworks: A playful park of water-powered inventions and recycled contraptions. Perfect fun for kids and adults alike.

Around Town
  • Galleries and boutique shops

  • Coastline walks and lookout views
  • Markets and seasonal events
  • Whangapoua Beach (20-minute drive)

Day Trips Across the Peninsula
Hot Water Beach – dig your own warm sand pools.
Cathedral Cove – a dramatic coastal walkway to a rock arch and secluded beaches.
Note: Both are a drive from Coromandel Town, but well worth the trip.

Getting Around
Ferry from Auckland:
On weekends, a ferry runs to Coromandel Town and includes a shuttle into town. We’re happy to help with reservations, transfers to the homestead, or taxis.
Driving: Thames Coast Road (SH 25) is a technical but stunning coastal route. Take your time, enjoy the views, and pull over in designated areas for photo ops.
